The fourth annual Festimage, which started on 8 April and is currently taking place, had the largest number of participants ever. A total of 2.847 people from 76 countries took part in the photography and digital art contest.

The 50 finalists will be announced on 5 June. The top five winners, to be chosen from among the finalists by an international panel, will be announced ten days later.

The first prize is worth 5.000 euros. The next prizes are worth 2.500, 1.500, 1.000, 750 and 500 euros.

Countries with the most entries include Spain (with 454 participants), Germany (319), Russia (304), Portugal (281), Brazil (222), Argentina (211), France (142), India (137) and Italy (127).

This year, the panel that decided which entries to admit into the contest, and which was also responsible for selecting the finalists, comprised photographers that are faculty members from the Portuguese Photography Institute.

 

Festimage – International Image Festival is an event promoted by the City Council of Chaves, Portugal. The entire contest is held exclusively over the Internet, at www.festimage.org, which includes versions in seven languages.

An exhibit is to be held on 8 July, using the finalist works; this year, such an exhibit will take place outdoors, in the main square of Chaves. Some of the finalist works will also each be used for making a large-format canvas, which will be on display on the façades of several buildings in the historic center of the city.

Last year’s festival had 2001 entries from 63 countries. Last year's winner was Abhijit Nandi, from India. In 2007, Festimage was won by Arup Ghosh, also from India, and the 2006 winner was Colombian Luís Henry Agudelo.
