Photographers Sue Getty Images Over Subscription Pricing PDF Print E-mail

The plaintiffs in the suit are photographers Roger Ressmeyer and Richard Minden, who run the photo agencies Science Faction and Minden Pictures, respectively, along with 84 other photographers who contribute to those agencies. (Ressmeyer is a former president of the Picture Archive Council of America, the trade group that represents stock agencies.) Science Faction supplies rights-managed images to Getty Images, and Minden Pictures did previously, according to the suit.

New York Times Closes Play Magazine; Reported To Be Bleeding Cash PDF Print E-mail
The New York Times will no longer publish Play magazine, a quarterly Sunday newspaper insert that was known for high-quality portraiture photography. The Times reported the closure on November 17, two weeks after Play’s November 2 issue, which will be the last.

'Cottage Living' Falls Victim to Time Inc. Cuts PDF Print E-mail
As a slump in advertising continues to drag down the publishing industry, shelter magazines have been the first titles to collapse.

The latest is Cottage Living, which Time Inc. is shutting down. It becomes the fourth major shelter magazine to fold in the past 12 months. News reports say most of the magazine’s 47 staffers will be laid off.

Gregory Garry has seen a few magazines PDF Print E-mail
Gregory Garry has seen a few magazines come and go. He was photo director for Budget Living (folded 2005), Weekend (folded 2006) and Radar (folded 2008). At Radar, Garry oversaw the wacky celebrity photo-illustration covers that earned the magazine a reputation for satire and snark. Garry had the good luck to leave Budget Living and Weekend before they closed, but he was working at Radar when the axe fell just before Halloween. Garry recently took time out from his job search to chat with PDN about photography, Radar and the future of magazines.
